What is a creative drama camp?
Creative Drama Camps at Scottish Rite Theatre are all about having fun while learning a bit about stagecraft. Creative Drama encourages creativity through imagination and play. Using improv techniques and theatre games, students learn how to listen, develop leadership skills and build self confidence. Activities include creating characters, writing scripts, designing and making costumes and playing games that teach theatre terms, stage direction and “paying attention skills!”
My child is really shy...is this camp right for us?
Absolutely! Creative Drama Camp is a nurturing environment...students move at their own pace, often with a partner or in groups. Though each student has an opportunity to “shine” individually, students are never put “on the spot”.
This summer, we offer two sessions for the stars of the future, defined by age group. Our one-week camp, Theatre Fundamentals is geared for ages 5-7, and the two-week session, Character Development & Production targets children ages 8-12. Camps are limited to 30 students in each session
I-Character Development and Production
June 4-16 (2wks)
Ages 8-12
Monday-Friday 8:00-11:00 AM
Showcase: Saturday, June 16
Tuition $500.00 +$50 App. fee
Camp I is designed for students ages 8-12 (or returning 2006 Camp students with instructor approval). Building on Theatre Fundamentals, Camp I focuses on elements of theatre production. The two-week camp includes design activities, character development and scene work. Students will perform for family and friends Saturday, June 16.
II-Theatre Fundamentals
July 9-14 (1wk)
Ages 5-7
Monday-Friday 8:00-11:00 AM
Showcase: Saturday July 14
Tuition $300.00 +$50 App. fee
Designed for students age 5-7, Camp II fosters the student’s creativity through improvisation, character creation and theatre games. Students will learn basic theatre terms, design their own costume and develop self confidence in a fun environment. Students will be given activities to do at home to enhance their theatre experience, and will give a demonstration of their new skills for family and friends on Saturday, July 14.
Things you should know
Space Camps are limited to 30 students.
Dress Students should wear comfortable shorts or pants and shoes. (No flip flops or bare feet). Please add shorts under skirts or dresses. Each student will receive a Camp T-Shirt to wear in the final showcase. (Indicate size on registration form.
Materials We provide a pencil and folder for handouts. Students should bring their folder to class each day.
Attendance Because the final showcase is a cumulative process, it is important students are on time and present each day.
Drop Off & Pick Up Drop off begins at 7:45 a.m. You will need to sign your child in and out each day. Please contact us if a person other than the parent/legal guardian is picking up your student.
Late Pick Up Students should be picked up within fifteen minutes after camp ends. Staff will remain with students until they have been picked up, however, there is a $5.00 fee for every fifteen minutes students must wait.
Payments We accept checks and all major credit cards except Discover. To register with a credit card, call 512-472-7247 Monday-Friday from Noon-4:30 p.m. A $2.00 fee is added per transaction.
Cancellations & Refunds Written cancellations must be received two weeks (14 days) prior to the start of camp. A $50 processing fee will be deducted from any cancellations made after the two week date. (No refunds after the start of camp).
