The Aquatic Sciences Adventure camp (formerly the Aquatic Studies Camp) has educated students about freshwater science since 1988. During this time over 2,500 students ages 9-15 and more than 170 teachers have participated in the program.>br>
About the program
The camp curriculum involves a combination of educational and recreational activities. The educational activities involve aquatic biology and water chemistry activities. They include collecting of plankton from ponds on the university campus, collecting of aquatic invertebrates from the San Marcos River or Sessom Creek, microscope labs, a glass-bottom boat ride, educational displays and a tour of a wetland at Aquarena Center, conducting tests for physical and chemical properties of water and a lesson in scuba and snorkeling. Recreational activities include swimming and tubing in the San Marcos River, cave tours, swimming in a spring-fed swimming pool at Landa Park in New Braunfels, a raft trip on the Guadalupe River and a trip to Sea World.
